Artificial Superintelligence (ASI) represents a hypothetical intelligence that far surpasses the cognitive capabilities of the smartest human mind in virtually every domain, including scientific creativity, general wisdom, and social skills. Unlike Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which aims to match human-level intellect, ASI is conceived as an intelligence that could not only perform any intellectual task a human can but do so orders of magnitude better and faster. Understanding ASI is crucial for navigating the future of advanced AI, as its emergence could fundamentally reshape civilization. The discussion around ASI is not merely speculative; it underpins critical research into AI safety and alignment, aiming to mitigate potential risks before such systems might arise.

One of the central mechanisms hypothesized for the emergence of ASI is recursive self-improvement.
